When asbestos has been broken, weathered or accidentally disturbed, Total Asbestos responds the same day during business hours — Monday to Saturday, 6:30am to 5:00pm. The first priority is containing the area so fibres stop spreading, then assessing what has to be removed.

1 Phone triage Describe what happened and what the material looks like. Most situations are settled on the call, including the ones that turn out not to be urgent.

2 Isolation advice What to do before we arrive: leave the area, keep people and pets out, and don't sweep, vacuum or hose anything.

3 Attendance Same day during business hours, across Brisbane, Ipswich, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

4 Containment The affected area is sealed and signed so the material stops being walked through and spread further.

5 Removal and clearance Debris is removed, the area is cleaned down, air is tested, and a clearance certificate is issued.

Do you offer 24-hour emergency callout?

No. Response is same-day within business hours, Monday to Saturday, 6:30am to 5:00pm. Overstating that would be easy and unhelpful — if material is disturbed outside those hours, isolate the area and keep everyone away until the morning.

What should I do before you arrive?

Leave the area and close it off. Don't sweep, vacuum, hose or bag the debris — all of those spread fibres further. If it's outside, keep people and pets off the ground nearby; if it's inside, shut the door and turn off any air conditioning that circulates through the space.

Is storm-damaged asbestos roofing an emergency?

It's urgent rather than an emergency. Broken sheeting on the ground can be walked through and spread, so the area should be isolated and cleared quickly — but it doesn't require anyone to act in the middle of the night.
